Vol. 124 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Distribution of Lime: Subsidy Suggestion.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether he has seen the statement attributed to the chief of the E.C.A. mission to Ireland that he had suggested to the Government that 5,000,000 dollars from the grant counterpart special account should be used to subsidise the distribution of lime to farmers; whether this suggestion has been considered by the Government; and, if so, what decision has been made.

The subject-matter of Mr. Millar's statement has been under consideration and the Government has decided to put in operation an interim scheme whereunder ground limestone will be delivered to farmers at not more than 16/- a ton as from Monday, March 12th. Full details will be published in the early future.

May I congratulate the Minister on having changed his mind?

I congratulate the Deputy on his resilience.
