Vol. 124 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supply Board Pensions.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate when increased pensions will be granted to Electricity Supply Board pensioners who were transferred from the employment of Dublin Corporation by the Electricity Supply Act, 1927.

Proposals for the increase of pensions payable by the Electricity Supply Board to the persons referred to by the Deputy have been under consideration for some time past, but the preparation of the necessary legislation has been somewhat delayed by further representations on the subject which have been made on behalf of the persons concerned by the Irish Local Government Officials' Union. It is hoped, however, to introduce a Bill for the purpose in the Oireachtas after the Easter recess.

In view of the fact that this matter has been under consideration since 1948, does the Parliamentary Secretary not think that it is time that those who have served the Electricity Supply Board and the corporation for perhaps a longer period than the gentleman referred to in the previous question should now get consideration? They should have got it long ago.

They are not golfing pals of the Taoiseach.

If Deputy Smith golfed with the Taoiseach it might improve him.

The Lord forbid.

The Irish Local Government Officials' Union made representations on the proposals and that has held up the matter.
