Vol. 124 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Council of Europe.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state what steps are being taken to bring before Dáil Eireann the various recommendations made by the Council of Europe.

It is my intention to seek, an an early date, the authority of the Government for the introduction in the House of a motion that Dáil Eireann consider the recommendations emanating from the second session of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe (with particular reference to the eight recommendations chosen by the Bureau of the Assembly for communication to the Parliaments of member States), together with the record of the meeting of the sixth session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council, held in Rome in November, 1950.

In addition, I have caused the printed compilation of the recommendations and resolutions, adopted by the Consultative Assembly at its second session, to be made available in the Library of the House for consultation by Deputies.

A White Paper on these recommendations and on the proceedings of the sixth session of the Committee of Ministers has been prepared in my Department and is at present in the process of being printed. This publication will be circulated to Deputies in the normal manner as soon as it is received from the printers.

I propose to introduce the motion referred to above prior to the third session of the Consultative Assembly which is scheduled to commence in Strasbourg on 5th May, 1951.
