Vol. 124 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions Claims.

Mr. Maguire

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state how many of the 550 claims heard and decided upon by the Military Service Pensions Board were successful.

Of the 550 claims referred to by the Deputy the decision of the Referee and Board of Assessors under the Military Service Pensions (Amendment) Act, 1949, was in favour of the claimants in 203 cases.

The Minister states that 203 cases were successful; otherwise, 203 claimants who did not receive justice under a previous Act.

What about those who did not receive justice under the 1923 Act?

Remember the Post Office—you did well there.

Hungry O'Higgins.

How many of the 203 were cases that appealed under the 1924 and not the 1934 Act?

I cannot say.

Will you admit there were some to whom, according to Deputy O'Higgins, justice was not done under the 1924 Act?

Deputy O'Higgins should stop talking. There are a great many pensions in the O'Higgins family.

The hungry trio.
