Vol. 125 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Conditions of Service of Postmen.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will have a review made of the conditions of service and pay of postmen, both temporary and permanent, and if he will see that these conditions are improved at an early date.

The scheme for conciliation and arbitration in the Civil Service provides facilities for staff associations to make representations for improvements in the pay and other conditions of service of the grades they represent. Such representations already received on behalf of postmen and other Post Office grades have resulted in the granting of certain improvements by way of larger increments and shortened wage-scales. The new rates are being paid as from 5th February, 1951.
