asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state in respect of the 1950 certified seed potato crop (a) the quantity exported to each of the various countries, and (b) the price per ton obtained for each variety.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seed Potato Crop.
Mr. Blaney
I understand from the Irish Potato Marketing Company that exports of the 1950 certified seed potato crop to the 31st March, 1951, were:—
Spain |
17,700 |
tons |
Portugal |
7,470 |
,, |
Great Britain |
2,500 |
,, |
Egypt |
745 |
,, |
France |
610 |
,, |
Algiers |
320 |
,, |
Cyprus |
100 |
,, |
It would not be in the interest of our export trade in seed potatoes to give the prices obtained in the various export markets.
Mr. Blaney
Can the Minister give some indication that the prices which the producers are receiving for these seed potatoes are, in all the circumstances, equitable in relation to the price which is being got for them in this country?
I gladly give the Deputy that reassurance.
