Vol. 125 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Charges for Electricity.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that residents of the fringe area in the Dublin district are being asked to pay more than their city neighbours for electric current and that there is a growing feeling of grave dissatisfaction among corporation and private householders at this apparent discrimination; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I have no function in connection with the fixing of scales of charges for electricity but I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the rapid growth of housing on the outskirts of the city, causing in effect an expansion of the city, has created a rates of charge problem of which the board is aware, and which is receiving active consideration. It is clear that a radical modification of charges will be necessary to deal with the completely changed circumstances and the board is giving this problem careful study, but some time must elapse before a solution can be expected.
