Vol. 126 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Differential Rents Scheme.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the dissatisfaction amongst tenants of corporation houses and flats due to the new scheme of differential rents; and, if so, if he will have an inquiry made in the matter.

This matter has not, so far, come to my official notice. The responsibility for fixing and for revising, where necessary, any scheme of differential rents rests with the local housing authority in the first instance. No proposals for the modification of their present scheme of differential rents have yet been made to me by the Dublin Corporation, but I understand that the housing committee has the matter at present under review. Any such proposals, if and when submitted by the corporation, will be fully considered by me.

Would the Minister be prepared to receive a deputation from the aggrieved tenants and to hear their views on the matter?

Could not the aggrieved tenants make their views known to the committee to which I have referred which will be responsible for fixing these rents?

They have done so without avail.

I shall have to await the decision of the committee of the corporation.
