Vol. 126 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Checkers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the Clyde Shipping Company boats trading to Waterford are held up because of the company's refusal to give the Waterford checkers a similar increase to that granted to their Dublin employees of the same grade; and, if so, if he will take all possible steps to see that the dispute is examined, and settled, before serious loss is suffered by the merchants and dockers of Waterford.

I am aware that there is a dispute between the Clyde Shipping Company and the checkers employed by the company in Waterford. The Labour Court, which was set up for the purpose of resolving such disputes, is, of course, willing to act in this case if the parties concerned wish to avail of its services.
