Vol. 126 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coal Dump for Waterford.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the various public bodies and all Deputies representing Waterford City and County are anxious that a coal dump should be established at Waterford and if he is prepared to meet a deputation from these bodies to discuss the merits of the case before coming to a definite decision against establishing a dump there.

I am aware that Waterford public bodies and Deputies are anxious that a coal dump should be established at Waterford. Fuel Importers (Éire), Limited, are trying to secure vessels of suitable size for the importation of United States coal through the port of Waterford. If merchants are not prepared to purchase this coal overside, which is the more economic method for the ultimate consumer, I am prepared to have it stored in Waterford. The necessity to meet a deputation to discuss the matter does not, therefore, arise.
