asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he proposes to set up an export corporation; and, if so, when he expects to be in a position to introduce the necessary proposals for legislation and estimate for the purpose.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export Corporation.
The Dollar Export Advisory Committee established by the Government in May, 1950, recommended the establishment of a dollar export organisation to promote commodity exports to the dollar area. The previous Administration accepted this recommendation of the committee on 17th October, 1950. Provision of £10,000 for the organisation was made in the Estimates of the Department of Industry and Commerce for the current year. No further steps were taken to establish the organisation.
I am having the question of promoting exports to the dollar area examined as a matter of urgency.
Does the Minister agree that an export corporation of that nature is necessary?
As the Deputy is no doubt aware, this Dollar Export Advisory Committee made a number of recommendations bearing upon this subject. I propose to have all of them examined and to have the recommendations thereon submitted to the Government.
