Vol. 126 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - District Hospital, Abbeylaoighis.

asked the Minister for Health if it is proposed to remove the district hospital from Abbeylaoighis, County Laoighis, against the wishes of the local authority, clergy and citizens of Abbeylaoighis and South Laoighis; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no proposal before my Department to remove the district hospital from Abbeylaoighis.

A proposal has been received from the local authority to convert Abbeylaoighis Fever Hospital for use as a district hospital, to construct a small modern hospital block to serve as a fever hospital and to demolish the present district hospital. This proposal is at present under discussion with the local authority.

May I take it that, as far as the Minister's Department and himself are concerned, everything possible will be done to meet the full requirements of the local authority and the people of Abbeylaoighis in this matter?

It will be all done in consultation with the local authority.
