Vol. 126 No. 12

Written Answers. - Value of the £.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the value of the £ at February in each of the years 1932, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1948 and 1951, taking February, 1922, or nearest date thereto for which figures are available, as the basis at 20/- and measuring prices by the official cost-of-living index figure.

It is estimated that the quantum of goods (at retail prices) and rents which could be purchased for 20/- in March, 1922, would cost 17/- in February, 1932; 18/3 in February, 1939; 20/7 in February, 1940; 22/10 in February, 1941; 33/1 in February, 1948, and 34/5 in February, 1951.
