asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that no pension scheme exists for certain road workers employed by the Dublin County Council; and, if so, if he will take steps to have a scheme provided for these workers.

The Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948, which has been in operation in Dublin County since the 1st October, 1949, in relation to servants, empowers the local authority to pay pensions and other benefits to road workers and other servants who comply with the provisions of the Act.
Is the Minister aware that some of the road workers employed by the Dublin County Council, because of a break in service some years ago, are not entitled to pensions under the Act and will he take such steps as are necessary to see that they are brought within the provisions of the Act?
I was aware that a number of difficulties arose but I did not know that they were concerned with the particular cases to which the Deputy has referred. I understand most of the difficulties have been solved following discussions but there may be some more outstanding. If they are capable of solution, every effort will be made to arrive at such a solution.
Is the Minister aware that less than 50 per cent. of road workers are qualified for a pension under the Act and will he take such steps——
