Vol. 127 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities and Land Commission Plans.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will arrange that in future the Land Commission will, before undertaking any work or building in any area, consult with the appropriate local authority to ascertain whether such local authority has any development plans for such area which might be affected by or might affect the plans of the Land Commission.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to a question last week, the Land Commission consult with the town planning authority in any case where it is considered that their proposals might affect the plans of the authority. This arrangement has been in force for several years and the Land Commission have no reason to believe that it has not worked satisfactorily. They have received no indication that their operations have conflicted with the plans of any local authority in any instance, or vice versa.

It is not proposed to alter the present arrangement which is the furthest the Land Commission can go having regard to their statutory obligations.

What harm would it do the Land Commission to let the local authority know in all cases?

Could not the local authority make their own inquiry?

How can the local authority know what the Land Commission is going to inquire into?

Would they not make their own inquiry?

The Land Commission should do its own work and not let other people do it for them.

They are doing their job.
