Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities (Works) Act.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of each local authority the amount of money provided under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for 1949-50 and for 1950-51.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

*In these cases the grants shown above were notified to the respective County Councils who executed the works on behalf of the Urban District Councils.

In addition to the grant allocation shown above to county councils in 1950-51, a special allocation of £1,000 was made available to each county council for the execution of works ancillary to operations under the land rehabilitation project. The special allocation in the case of Cork County Council was £3,000.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate the amount of money payable to Cork County Council under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for each year since its inception.

The grants allocated to Cork County Council for the execution of approved works and the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the three successive financial years in which the Act has been in operation are £134,624, £150,000, and £105,000, respectively. The amounts payable within the limits of these allocations will represent the final expenditure approved each year for recoupment.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the amounts allocated to the Kildare County Council under the Local Authorities (Works) Act in the financial years 1950-51 and 1951-52.

The grant allocations to Kildare County Council for the execution of approved works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act are:—

1950-51, £61,000; 1951-52, £44,000.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate the amount of money that will be made available to the Cork County Council for works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act during the current financial year.

A grant of £105,000 has been allocated to the Cork County Council for the execution of approved works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, in the current financial year.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give particulars of the grants (a) paid and (b) sanctioned under the Local Authorities (Works) Act by his Department since the 1st July last.

The particulars are:— (a) £284,820; (b) £873,138, which includes the balance of the grants for the year to county councils.
