Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Boundary.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state when the Dublin City boundary will be extended and whether the purchase rights or rents of existing county council cottage tenants will be adversely affected by the extension.

An application for an extension of the Dublin City boundary has been made to me by the corporation under the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930. The application will be the subject of a public local inquiry after which a provisional Order may be made by me giving effect to the application with or without modification. Any such provisional Order shall not have effect unless and until confirmed by the Oireachtas. I am not, therefore, in a position to say when the boundary will be extended.

Section 22 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1950, deals with the transfer of a cottage built under the Labourers Acts to an urban authority; it provides that such transfer shall not take place until 12 months have elapsed since the cottage has come within the urban area, and a tenant has this period within which to exercise his right to purchase the cottage under the Labourers Act, 1936. If a tenant does not purchase within this period, the cottage transfers to, and the tenant becomes a tenant of, the urban authority.
