Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Creamery.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware of the necessity for establishing a creamery at Kilgobinet, Beaufort, County Kerry; and, if so, if he will make the necessary arrangements in the matter.

Mr. Walsh

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative and the second part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

As the Deputy is aware, creamery facilities have for many years past been provided for the farmers of this area by way of a travelling creamery which stops at Kilgobinet where the bulk of its milk supply is received. This vehicle also caters for the Blackstones and Boheeshil districts and I am informed by the Dairy Disposal Company that if the travelling creamery lost the support of the milk supplies at the Kilgobinet stop, it would be uneconomic to continue the present travelling creamery service for Blackstones and Boheeshil and the farmers in those districts would thus be deprived of creamery facilities. For these reasons, it is proposed to continue operating the travelling creamery at the three existing stops.
