Vol. 127 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coal Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is in a position to state the extent to which Britain will fulfil her treaty obligations to Ireland in regard to coal in the year 1951.

It is expected that supplies of coal and coke from Great Britain in the year 1951 will amount to about 1,230,000 tons as compared with the minimum quantity of 1,570,000 tons guaranteed in the 1948 Trade Agreement.

Has the Minister considered the possibility of securing compensation from the British Government in regard to the prices which the Irish importers had to pay for coal imported from America by reason of the failure of the British Government to comply with the agreement?

That has not been suggested.
