Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Distribution of Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the Rooney estate situate at Hillsbrook, Barnaderg, County Galway, for distribution and subdivision among suitable allottees, thereby relieving acute local congestion; and whether, if the Land Commission have already taken steps in this regard, he will indicate the present position.

The Land Commission instituted proceedings for the acquisition of these lands. An objection to acquisition has been heard in the Land Commission Court and judgment has been reserved.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is prepared to give an assurance that all lands on the Carter estate, Kilsallaghan, will be distributed amongst local applicants.

The decision as to the particular persons to be selected as allottees for this and every estate is a reserved function of the commissioners and I cannot give an assurance of the nature sought in the question. However, the Deputy can be assured that the claims of local applicants will be fully considered before the lands are allotted.
