Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Reserve—Service Conditions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state if he is aware that (i) dissatisfaction exists in the First Line Reserve concerning conditions of service, and (ii) many officers made representations to the Adjutant-General in relation thereto; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

Officers of the Reserve of Officers from time to time communicate with the Adjutant-General either directly or through their commanding officers on a variety of matters connected with their service in the Reserve. Their representations are sympathetically examined in the light of existing regulations and conditions and all cases are met as far as possible within those considerations.

In view of the known dissatisfaction of lieutenants and second-lieutenants of the First Line Reserve and of the fact that the Minister is making a drive to recruit for the Army and the First Line Reserve, will he consider a re-examination of the whole question of the grants to officers of the First Line Reserve?

That, I think, is a completely separate question.

The Minister must think very little of my supplementaries.
