Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Cottage Tenants' Amenities.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a large number of cottage tenants in County Dublin are very displeased with the new houses provided by the county council due to absence of doors on the coal houses, the lack of any dividing fence or wall between the back gardens, especially in the Rathcoole and Newcastle areas, and the lack of any convenient common water supply, e.g., a pump; and, if so, whether he will request the local authority to remedy these matters.

I understand that the Dublin County Council has received complaints from some of the tenants and that the matters complained of are receiving due consideration. A tender for the provision of fencing on cottage sites, including sites at Rathcoole and Newcastle, has been accepted and tenders for the fitting of doors to the outoffices of all cottages erected since 1945 have been invited by the council.

I am informed that the council, when selecting sites for the erection of cottages, endeavour to ensure that a suitable water supply will be conveniently available for each dwelling and that the council will consider carefully representations from any tenant who has been inconvenienced by the lack of a reasonably accessible water supply.
