asked the Minister for External Affairs if the Government have recently considered reapplying for membership of U.N.O. and, further, if he will state what responsibilities would devolve upon our country in the event of our becoming a member of U.N.O.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ireland's Membership of U.N.O.
There is no question of reapplying for membership of the U.N.O. The position is that the application made in 1946 remains blocked by an objection in the Security Council.
As regards the second part of the question, I would refer the Deputy to the debate which took place in this House on the 24th and 25th July, 1946, during which the Taoiseach explained the commitments assumed by members under the U.N.O. Charter.
