The total number of persons, exclusive of members of the Defence Forces, employed by the State was 46,200 in 1949 and 48,300 in 1950. The total number of persons employed by local authorities was 55,800 in 1949 and the corresponding figure for 1950 is provisionally estimated at 60,400. The particulars for 1951 are not yet available.
