The most suitable figures to measure the numbers of non-agricultural employees would appear to be the estimated average number of persons insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts actually at work in each year, which estimate is based on the value of contributions to the Unemployment Insurance Fund. The estimated figures, 341,300 for 1949 and 355,600 for 1950, were given by the Minister for Social Welfare in reply to a question by Deputy Larkin on 13th February, 1952, in which it was stated that the particulars for 1951 would be available in about a month.
