asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been directed to a public notice in the Press of 16th January, 1952, stating that the charges for turf-banks in County Wicklow are being increased from 10/- to 15/- per seven perches; and, if so, whether he will state if this increase has been authorised.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Charges for Wicklow Turf-Banks.
I am aware of a Press advertisement on the date mentioned in relation to the Powerscourt estate.
Charges for turf-cutting are regulated by the Turbary Rights Order, 1951, which, in general, relates such charges to those obtaining in 1947. The question of authorising increases in charges for turf-cutting does not, therefore, arise. The Order provides that if an excessive price is charged the amount of the excess may be recovered as a simple contract debt in any court of competent jurisdiction.
