asked the Minister for Education whether the Government has now reached a decision on the question of awarding a retiring gratuity to national teachers who retired prior to 1st January, 1950; and, if so, whether he will state the nature of the decision.

The Government has still under consideration the representations which have been made for the payment of a retiring gratuity to teachers who retired before the 1st January, 1950.
The Government's decision, when arrived at, will be announced without delay.
