Vol. 131 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of French Slates.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that in the repairs carried out after the storm damage last December in the Ballinskelligs-Cahirciveen areas, slates imported from France were supplied; and, if so, if he will state the name of the importer of these slates and why it was necessary to import them.

I am not aware that slates imported from France were used for the purpose mentioned by the Deputy. My information has been obtained from the office of the county council and is to the effect that the slates were imported slates and were used because (a) they were the only kind available in the locality at the time, and (b) the material nearest to hand had to be used as a matter of urgency to prevent further damage to the houses by weather and storm.
