Vol. 131 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roads and Shelters for Dublin Turf Producers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the need for the provision of suitable roads and shelters for the use of private turf producers on the Dublin Mountains; and, if so, whether, in view of the desirability of securing maximum turf production, he will direct the appropriate local authority to take steps to provide these necessary amenities.

The undertaking of works on bog accommodation roads on the Dublin Mountains is being dealt with by the special employment schemes office under sub-head I of the Vote for employment and emergency schemes, and it is understood that grants for the necessary works have already been made available. The question of participation by local authorities in the works does not, therefore, arise.

Local authorities have no power to construct shelters for the benefit of private individuals in the circumstances mentioned by the Deputy.
