asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the acreage of land acquired by the Forestry Division from 31st March, 1951, to 31st March, 1952, (b) the acreage taken possession of in this period and (c) the acreage which it is estimated will be taken over during the coming year.

The area of land acquired by the Forestry Division during the year ended 31st March, 1952, was 19,064¾ acres. This includes all areas of which possession was taken during the period. Lands of which possession has not been taken are not regarded as having been acquired. It is not possible to give any reliable estimate of the area likely to be acquired in the coming year.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total acreage of forests planted last season and the estimated acreage which it is hoped to plant in the coming season.

The area of land planted last season was approximately 15,000 acres. The planting programme for the coming season is still in course of compilation.

Can the Minister say what his hopes are?

I do not wish to anticipate the discussion which, I hope, will take place shortly on the Forestry Estimate.

That is the purpose of these questions. I want to have a little ammunition.

I will give the Deputy plenty of ammunition.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the total weight of forest tree seeds planted in the nurseries this spring, (b) the weight of seed of each species planted, and (c) the weight, if any, still to be planted.

Sowing has just commenced in the State forest nurseries and the information requested by the Deputy is not yet available. If the Deputy will repeat the question in about a fortnight's time I hope to be able to give him the figures he requires.

Would the Minister be able to give the figure as to the weight of seeds that is available?

I would if the Deputy would put down a further question.

I think that is evasion. The Minister must surely know what weight of seeds the Department intend sowing.

The Deputy will have the information in plenty of time.
