Vol. 131 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foot and Mouth Disease.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate the nature of the duties which unemployed persons in Limerick recruited recently or about to be recruited by his Department will have to carry out in combating foot and mouth disease.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the present duties of the Limerick City unemployed recruited by his Department to combat any possible outbreak of foot and mouth disease, and whether they will receive 15/- daily from the day of recruitment; and, if not, whether a retaining wage is to be paid.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will recruit the unemployed persons in Cobh, Midleton, Youghal and Fermoy on the same lines as the unemployed in Limerick are recruited to act in the event of an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the respective districts.

With your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, I propose to reply to questions Nos. 39, 40 and 41 together.

There has been no such recruitment of labour to deal with possible outbreaks of foot and mouth disease. This would not be necessary except in the event of an outbreak.
