Vol. 131 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lime Subsidy Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether any lime subsidy scheme operated by his Department has been stopped since February, 1948; and, if so, when and what scheme.

Mr. Walsh

The answer is in the affirmative. The lime subsidy (reclamation and drainage) scheme, which operated in conjunction with the farm improvements scheme, lapsed with the termination of the latter scheme on the 31st December, 1949.

In addition, the lime subsidy scheme formerly operated through the county committees of agriculture was discontinued on the 31st December, 1950.

Is the Minister aware that the scheme for the subsidising of ground limestone was discontinued by his predecessor on 31st December, 1948, and was not reintroduced until the then Minister was compelled to reintroduce it by E.C.A. representatives?

Mr. Walsh

Yes.

"Yes", says the Minister for Agriculture. He might as well have replied: "The answer is a lemon."

The warble fly does not warble.
