Vol. 132 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Proposed New Loan.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is in a position to state when it is intended to float a new loan and the terms of such a new loan.

Arrangements are under discussion for the flotation of a national loan as soon as conditions appear favourable. It would be helpful in this connection if all Parties would agree to a temporary suspension of controversy on financial matters. I am not yet in a position to announce either the date or the terms of the proposed issue.

Coming from the second in command to the Minister for Finance, that is priceless.

Who would blame the maneen for not being able to say that himself?

May we get an assurance that the Minister for Finance will cease making speeches concerning the bankruptcy of this State? May we also get an assurance from him that he will ask his colleague, the Minister for Justice, to cease giving newspaper interviews in Strasbourg, to the effect that this State is on the verge of bankruptcy?

It would be better if Deputy MacBride's supporters down the country would interest themselves in a turf bank and not in the Central Bank.

The Central Bank is far more important than a bank of turf.
