Vol. 132 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Pensioners.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the approximate number of retired civil servants who are in receipt of annual pensions reduced by the continuing operation of the super cut in bonus which was abolished in 1951, and the approximate amount of the net gain to the Exchequer during the current financial year which is expected to arise wholly through the continuance of such reductions.

There are approximately 240 retired civil servants in receipt of annual pensions calculated on remuneration which was subject to the operation of the super cut in bonus. These pensioners are being paid the full amount of pension appropriate to their salaries on retirement under the provisions of the Superannuation Acts without any reduction, and as the State is discharging its full statutory liability to these pensioners, it cannot be said that there is any gain to the Exchequer in respect of these pensioners.
