Vol. 132 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electrification of Gaeltacht Areas.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the urgent necessity for preserving the Gaeltacht areas of Rosses, Gweedore and Cloughaneely, County Donegal, from extinction due to the unprecedented drains of emigration and migration therefrom this year, he will request the Electricity Supply Board to provide electricity for these areas forthwith and thus enable industries to be established therein.

Mr. Lynch

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to him on this subject on 29th November last. As I explained then the extension of supply to the areas named involves a major extension of the transmission system and the development of the Clady River. The hydro-electric project for the River Clady is unlikely to be completed before 1957.
