Vol. 132 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pipe-making Machine Imports.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is proposed to pay compensation to the persons who were encouraged to import expensive American pipe-making machines to meet the requirements of the land project in 1949-50, since the pipes which these machines produce would not be accepted after the machines were imported.

The selection of the type of machine to be purchased for the production of pipes for use on land project work is the sole responsibility of the persons or firms concerned and the question of my Department paying compensation for any loss incurred does not therefore arise.

Can the Minister say or does he know what are the machines referred to in this question?

Mr. Walsh

I have no idea.
