Vol. 132 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increased Supplies of Flour.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will have arrangements made for making available increased supplies of flour to bakers in country districts pending the derationing of flour and bread in July of this year.

Mr. Lynch

I would refer the Deputy to the statement which I made on the 21st May last, during the course of an Adjournment Debate on this matter.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that, as a result of the fact that during the period of flour rationing the weekly quota was based on the value of the coupons lodged by the flour retailer with the flour miller, the distribution of this quota in small weights to a number of registered customers has resulted in loss of weight causing a shortage of flour to meet the ration requirements of customers and; if so, if he will sanction the issue of a supplementary two weeks' ration of flour so as to make sure that each consumer will be assured of the subsidised flour ration up to the end of the flour rationing period as otherwise consumers will be faced with a two weeks' shortage of flour.

Mr. Lynch

I have received no representations from retailers about shortages due to this cause.

I do not think that retailers have had difficulty in obtaining out of each sack of flour the number of rations which the sack represented.
