Vol. 132 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Irish-Grown Tomatoes.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will take the necessary action to prevent the cost of Irish grown tomatoes to the consumers from reaching excessively high figures and have a reasonable controlled price fixed for home-grown tomatoes immediately.

Mr. Lynch

I do not consider that it is necessary to control the price of Irish tomatoes. Imported tomatoes, at a controlled retail price, will be available up to the beginning of August, and it is expected that by that date, supplies of Irish tomatoes will be available in sufficient quantities to ensure a reasonable selling price to the public.
