Vol. 132 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farmers' Butter Surplus.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware (1) that in South Kerry farmers' butter is not now being bought and (2) that it is rotting in the dairies for want of a market; and, if so, what steps he is taking to ensure sale for this commodity or to make transport arrangements for farmers in remote areas by which their milk supply will be conveyed to the nearest creamery or creamery stop.

The answer to the first two parts of the question is in the negative, and the last part of the question does not therefore arise.

Has the Minister received any complaints from County Kerry?

Mr. Walsh

One.

And does that correspond with the complaints reported by Deputy Mrs. Ryan in connection with the difficulty that home butter-makers are experiencing in County Tipperary?

Mr. Walsh

Yes. We have made arrangements to have the milk collected from the creameries.

Will the Minister be able to do as much in Kerry for even the solitary complainant of whom he has heard?

Mr. Walsh

Yes. We have already done so.

You arranged to collect his milk? That is a very reasonable arrangement.
