Vol. 133 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - St. Kevin's Institution: Front Wall.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state when it is expected that the main wall enclosing the front of St. Kevin's Institution will be removed.

I have urged the local authority to take steps to open up the main entrance to St. Kevin's Hospital and I understand that the finding of a solution to this problem is being actively pursued at present. As the Deputy will be aware a considerable amount of replacement accommodation for various purposes would have to be found when this wall is demolished and in addition to the difficulty of finding suitable accommodation outside, the progress of the reconstruction works in the hospital taxes fully the capacity of the institution to cater for the numbers seeking treatment. The local authority have succeeded in finding a solution to two of the accommodation problems arising from the intended demolition of the James's Street wall and I am hopeful that a complete solution which will enable the work of demolition to be carried out will soon be found.
