Vol. 133 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Sewerage Schemes.

(North Kerry) asked the Minister for Local Government why his Department has failed to reply to a letter from the Kerry County Council dated 4th June, 1951, which is over a year ago, concerning Ballylongford sewerage scheme, as this sewerage scheme is an urgent necessity in Ballylongford, and the failure of his Department to reply to the council's letter has meant that nothing has since been done.

The position, as stated by the Deputy in his question, is not correct.

Since the receipt of the letter referred to, two local inspections have been made in connection with the scheme and discussions have taken place between an engineering inspector of the Department and the technical advisers of the sanitary authority. Arising out of the discussions, the consulting engineer is preparing a revised scheme. The submission of his revised proposals is awaited.

The sanitary authority have been informed of the position.

(North Kerry) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what is the position with regard to the Lixnaw, County Kerry, sewerage scheme, which has been held up for years, and if he is aware that, owing to the primitive sewerage facilities available there, the present position is most unsatisfactory and a hardship on the people of Lixnaw.

A sewerage scheme for Lixnaw cannot be proceeded with until an adequate piped water supply has been provided. The sanitary authority has under consideration the compulsory acquisition of land and water rights for the purposes of the water supply scheme and certain technical aspects of the sewerage scheme are being further considered by their technical advisers.
