Vol. 133 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what steps the Electricity Supply Board proposes to take to extend the rural electrification scheme to Annascaul and Dingle, County Kerry, and when this work is likely to be carried out.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that an official canvass of the residents of the Annascaul area under the rural electrification scheme is at present in progress but it is not possible at this stage to say when the area may be selected for development. The board further inform me that the possibility of developing an area in the vicinity of Dingle will be considered as soon as the board's supply is available at Dingle. Negotiations are at present proceeding in connection with the acquisition by the board of the existing electricity undertaking at that centre.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a recent canvass of the Crehana area, County Waterford, has been carried out with a view to its development for rural electrification and, if so, if he will state if and when the Electricity Supply Board intend to extend the scheme to the area.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that a canvass by a local committee of residents has been carried out in the Rathgormuch area, County Waterford, which includes Crehana. An official canvass by the board will be carried out early next year but no indication can be given at this stage as to when the development of the area will take place.
