Vol. 133 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carriage of Tea—Charges.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that Waterford and Sligo have been excluded from the carriage-paid area by Tea Importers, Limited, with the result that wholesalers in those and other areas have to pay 1d. per lb. for tea which is not paid by wholesalers in Dublin, Limerick and Cork; and, if so, whether he will have immediate investigations made into this apparent injustice which is gravely handicapping the traders concerned in their business.

Tea Importers, Limited, warehouses tea at Dublin, Cork and Limerick and the company's customers are required to pay carriage from whichever of these centres they draw their supplies. I have been examining this matter as a result of representations made to me by traders but my examination of it is not yet complete.
