Vol. 134 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that officials of his Department submitted an estimate for the completion of the repairs of the sea embankment of Callanafercy West, Marshall estate; and, if so, if he will sanction the necessary grant at an early date.

The work of closing the breaches in the Callanafercy West embankments has been completed. Estimates for the provision of additional protection by the construction of stone pitching on the sea face of the embankments, are at present under consideration.

Is the Minister aware that the main point put forward by his officials in asking for the supplementary grant was the increased cost of labour as between the year that this estimate was made out and the present time and, also, that there is a further embankment, a stone structure, to be added on that was not provided for in the original plan? Could he see his way to take all that into account when this matter is being finally decided?

Of course, the cost has increased very considerably in connection with these works but I am sure the commissioners, when they are considering the matter, will bear the Deputy's representations and all the circumstances of the case in mind.
