Vol. 134 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rents Commission Report.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state when the report of the Judge Conroy Commission on Rent Restrictions was received by him, the date upon which he proposes to publish the report and if the Government has decided to act on any or all of the recommendations.

I received on the 24th June, 1952, an interim report, which deals with rent control, from the commission of which Judge Conroy is chairman, and I expect that it will be published shortly. As regards the last part of the question, no decisions on the commission's recommendations have yet been taken by the Government.

Is the Minister aware that when this commission was set up it was regarded by a great number of Deputies as a matter of urgency and that since June is a considerable length of time?

Mr. Boland

The then Minister took good care to give them two years and we will have to give them another year.

Does that mean that the present Minister will give them two years more?

Mr. Boland

We will have to get an extension of the Act for another year.
