Vol. 134 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Offaly Letter-Box.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will have a letter-box erected at Moystown Cross, Belmont, County Offaly, to replace the letter-box which was removed some time ago and not replaced.

The amount of correspondence likely to be posted at Moystown Cross would not justify the erection of a letter-box there.

Surely the officers of the Minister's Department must be aware that there was always a letter-box at Moystown Cross up to some months ago when it was removed? The local people were under the impression that it was removed for the purpose of being repaired and considerable inconvenience has been caused to them by its removal. Shannon Bridge, Shannon Harbour, Birr and Belmont are a considerable distance from this area and Moystown Cross is one of the most suitable locations for a letter-box. Would the Minister contact the engineering section of his Department and ask for a report as to why the box was not replaced? I think the Minister must be confusing this with a new application for a letter-box.

There was a box at Moystown Cross up to 30 years ago, but it was damaged and not replaced.

Question No. 48.

Am I to take it that the Minister said there was a box there only 30 years ago?

That is what he said.

Perhaps it is 30 months ago he meant to say.

I have called the next question.
