Vol. 134 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Airport Motor Entrance.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the entrance to Shannon Airport for motor-cars carrying outgoing passengers does not provide adequate space, and, if so, if he will have it enlarged forthwith.

The approach to the public entrance at Shannon Airport is by a roadway 18 feet in width which for a distance of 40 yards passes between two sections of the terminal building and which gives access to a set-down area of 4,800 square feet and 40 feet in width. I have not previously received any representation as to the inadequacy of the space provided, but I will look into the matter. It would, however, be difficult to widen the part of the roadway which passes between the two sections of the terminal building without costly structural alterations.

If the Minister could arrange that at the end of the roadway one could turn a car in its own length without having to do gyrations in the course of reversing it would meet the situation in a large measure. At present there is not sufficient room to turn a car.

I am certain I have done it but I will look into the matter.

The Minister could not have done it because the answer the Minister has got does not refer to the entrance to the part of the building for outgoing passengers. The answer the Minister has got refers to that part of the road which is open to the public going to see the airport. I know because it happened on one occasion when I was going to a conference.
