Vol. 134 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Free Fuel Deliveries.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that the Dublin Board of Assistance refuse to deliver fuel to persons who are not in receipt of home assistance; and, if so, if he will arrange with the board to ensure that fuel will be delivered free to old age pensioners.

I am aware that the Dublin Board of Assistance has recently arranged for the delivery of fuel to certain recipients of home assistance who are unable, because of old age, sickness or infirmity, to collect the fuel themselves. I understand that the board have made this arrangement by way of home assistance for the individuals concerned, and that it would not be applicable to persons ineligible for home assistance. The Deputy is aware, I am sure, that home assistance is granted at the discretion of the public assistance authority and that I have no power to direct the granting of it.
