Vol. 135 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Sailors' and Soldiers' Land Trust.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his attention has been directed to the legislation passed in the British Parliament regarding the sale of houses to occupants by the Irish Sailors' and Soldiers' Land Trust, and if he will note that no provision is made therein for the sale of these houses to the children of deceased tenants; and if he proposes to introduce proposals for legislation dealing with the matter here, and if he will provide authority in these proposals to enable children of a deceased tenant to become the owners of what has always been considered their homes.

The legislation recently passed by the British Parliament enables the trust to implement an agreement which was the subject of a public announcement on 8th May, 1951. That agreement and the legislation do not extend to the children of deceased tenants. The question of the introduction of legislation here in connection with the implementation of the agreement does not arise.
