Vol. 136 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trawler Fishing.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the number of days' fishing by each of the three trawlers purchased from Germany by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara since the date of their arrival in the Republic.

Up to the 6th February, 1953, one of the vessels referred to has fished on 40 days and another on 42 days. The third has not yet commenced fishing owing to damage sustained on the way from Germany.

So that it was untrue for the Parliamentary Secretary to state that these boats arrived in a seaworthy condition after their journey across the North Sea? I take it further that, in the case of the two boats which are fishing, the catches which have been given are inclusive of the fish caught by them inside territorial waters as was indicated by the reply of the Parliamentary Secretary to Deputy Brennan's question last week?

I do not think the supplementary question requires any comment from me.

Would the Tánaiste mind if I asked at this stage if the Committee Stage of the Restrictive Practices and the Grass Meal Bill are finished to-day, whether it is still the intention of the Government that the House should sit to-morrow?

I think so. I have been pressed for additional time for the Defence Forces Bill.

What are you going to take to-morrow?

Assuming they are not finished to-day, the Grass Meal Bill, the Insurance Bill and the Defence Forces Bill.
